my feelings about cartoons for adults are a lot simpler:
- they’re pretty much always complete shit
- they think “adult” jokes just mean “as offensive as humanly possible”, and because of that, they let EVERYTHING SLIDE in the name of “freedom of speech” or something
- it’s damn near impossible to fix this problem because they….like I said…really do not care at all and feel like they have a RIGHT to make unbelievably dehumanizing jokes
- the level of disgusting that some of these cartoons are on is hard to even comprehend sometimes
- I don’t even think this should have to be said, but yes, this still hurts people in real ways
this is a damn good post
#over and over I see the problem of Kids Cartoon writers with kickass ideas like#‘we wanted to go further with this// tackle the darker implications // outright show this character was gay or depressed or what-have-you’#and otherwise those shows are just drawgeous and nuanced and well thought out and funny and sensitive otherwise#but had any lgbtqia representation blotted out bc the gay community is inherently sexual so it needs a later time slot#but then Adult Animation instead of running with that freedom and making something beautiful#are responsible for some of the most hideous eyesore entertainment that defames instead of representing#or goes for shock and titillation because they’re unable to evoke any feelings with their 2dimensional mean-spirited unlikeable characters#ultimately these lazy excuses for shows end up being anything but mature by every definition
